A gripping and thought-provoking dragon adventure story!

The "Wings of Fire" series is off to a great start! The first book is prefaced with the in-depth NightWing Guide To The Dragons Of Pyrrhia, which does a good job of establishing the world-building and key players in the story, and as a big fan of maps I was happy to see the double-page spread that greeted me when I first opened the cover. The pacing of the story is also delightfully jarring at times. The prologue immediately dives into the action and lets you know that war does nothing but create a body count. The blows just keep coming from there. No details spared. I really like how "Wings of Fire" approaches its prophecy from the angle of "but what if we don't WANT to be part of the prophecy?" and prompts readers to question if it's ethical to essentially kidnap children and hold them hostage all in the name of "the greater good." It was a great choice to start the series from Clay's perspective to really cement in the readers' minds that striving for peaceful solutions to conflict doesn't make one weak or worthless.

Another connection with my grandson!

I have always loved fantasy books. When my grandson started reading these and sharing the story I thought it would be a great way to stay involved in his world. Tui writes so well, with humorous, conniving, sarcastic and caring dragons. There is much to enjoy, relate to and talk about. I'm now on book 10! Is Darkstalker really evil or misunderstood? I don't know, but it'll be an adventure, with my grandson, finding out.

An Instant Classic for Dragon Lovers

This 11 book (and counting) series is a breath of fresh air and excitement. Don't let the scholastic sticker fool you, this title is well up there with more adult reads like Dragon Champion and Dragon Keeper in terms of interest and well-told stories. The characters are all young 'dragonets' and each is amazingly contrasted and unique. These dragons personality and appearance are based on an in-depth history created by Sutherland (art included in the first few pages) and find a reader connecting with each in his or her own way. I really enjoyed this aspect as Sutherland masterfully crafts a world where you can fully envelope yourself in a coming of age tale between five dragon friends and their ultimate destiny to save all of dragon kind.

Wings Of Fire

I bought this book and up to the eighth book for this series, and as a 15 year old girl, I love this series. Each book features of individual dragons, the first five of the Dragonet's of Prophecy. Great book for those 8 to 12 and up if interested.
